Traveller’s Tales part XIII

The last part can be found: HERE

In the last part we were continuing with a trip around Split in Croatia. Rushing around between meetings I was grabbing snaps when and where I could.

Split is a busy cosmopolitan kind of place and I find the way that they give pedestrians right of way with beautifully paved walkways in much of the town truly refreshing. I was rather surprised to find that they were celebrating the Battle of Trafalgar courtesy of the British Embassy, my only regret was given the brief nature of my visit I never had time to find out why.

The town also has lots of interesting squares. This one I believe was called Revolution Square and as there was a café tucked away in the far corner I decided to stop for an iced tea.

Cafés are always good places to sit and watch the world go by and this one was no exception. Most girls here are very attractive although why they indulge in reading ‘man porn’ I have no idea.

The men of course do what men do everywhere they sit and chew the cud and sooner or later get around to bragging about their favourite topic.

I must admit I was surprised to find myself sitting next to a Viking. I can only assume his longboat had taken the wrong turning at Gibraltar. This particular one was looking rather tired. I guess raping and pillaging is a very exhausting business.

After a refreshing iced tea I continued to explore the old town with its little alleyways.

Some of the buildings were built in the grand style and reminded me of the Hapsburgs.

I was rather surprised to find that the locals had somewhat of a penchant for little dogs. Many of the locals were carrying them either in bicycle baskets like this one…..

…or under their arms…..like this one which really didn’t seem much bigger than a rat.

The owner told me this one is called Twinkletoes and explained the dog is much more low maintenance than a boyfriend. As a dog owner myself I was constrained to agree.

(to be continued)

Made me smile. I have never been to Croatia - but I think I should if the opportunity arises although I have to say I don't like small dogs xxx
