Saffy's Travels

The winner of the last ‘Guess Where?’ competition was Jenny and the place featured was Sicily. If you have never been, here are a few more photos to give you a flavour of the island.

I thought of adding this piece of graffeti to the competition photos but decided that it might make it too easy. It seems that Cuffaro is being outed as a Mafia member.

Of course I couldn't leave without getting a T shirt.

But my main interest was the flair the Sicilians have for architecture.

I thought this building was absolutely gorgeous...

Having said that the Sicilians have a flair for style in clothes too…..

It' always nice to see women sharing a kiss.

And of course readers will want to know what Sicilian women look like…

This young lady seemed quite shocked to find a Yorkshirewoman walking down the street.

As important it was to report on the women of Sicily it seemed far more pressing to report on Sicily’s main claim to fame, so I caught myself a bus up into the mountains to find some of those little villages and their quaint ways and maybe even a little bit of Cavalleria Rusticana.

My father says I always have an uncanny knack of turning up when things are happening and I found myself in the middle of a car race around the winding mountainous roads.

As well as cars there was also a navel display, although this six pack looked more like a firkin.

Determined to report on the Mafia for the Blog I continued in my search. Not speaking Italian was a handicap, but a knowledge of French helped and eventually I found an old dear who was willing to tell me where the local Don lives. Apparently it’s here! However she says he’s not come out in years as he has gout.

Eventually I spotted some guys who looked like they might be Mafia. Only later when I examined the photograph did I spot one had a handbag! Perhaps even tough guys have a feminine side?
