Where Do We Draw The Line
Song: Where Do We Draw the Line
by: Poets of the Fall
On your palm an endless wonder
The lines that speak the truth without a sound
And in your eyes awaits the tireless hunger
Already looks for prey to run down
So why do we keep up this charade
And how do we tell apart the time to leave
From the time to wait
What does tomorrow want from me
What does it matter what I see
If it can't be my design
Tell me where do we draw the line
Tell me where do we draw the line
The dance of flames and shadows in the street
Make poetry nobody's ever heard
The weight of loneliness stands on your feet
The cage already there around the bird
Where do we join the masquerade
Before it falls apart
Before our love becomes insatiate
What does tomorrow want from me
What does it matter what I see
If I can't choose my own design
Tell me where do we draw the line
What does tomorrow want from me
What does it matter what I see
If we all walk behind the blind
Tell me where do we draw the line
Tell me where do we draw the line
Where's the cooling wind
Where's the evergreen field
Where's my mother's open arms
Where's my father Lionheart
It's like the sun's gone down
Sleeps in the hallow ground now
With the autumn's brown leaves
With the one who never grieves
Why do we keep up this charade
And how do we tell apart the time to leave
From the time to wait
What does tomorrow want from me
What does it matter what I see
If it can't be my design
Tell me where do we draw the line
Whatever tomorrow wants from me
At least I'm here, at least I'm free
Free to choose to see the sign
This is my line

Kimmie, thank you for sharing stargazerlilies and your lovely poetry with me. I can relate to your journey seeking the most honest path you can, and commend you, for trying to remain true to yourself while still honoring other souls you meet along the way. You’ve done a remarkable job obtaining a happy medium by using a scale of fairness. I believe your Mom watches over with her beautiful smile and is very, very proud of you. As am I, my friend, in witnessing your personal growth. In a universal sense, we are all poets of the fall in this thing called life. We need not be actual literal ones to appreciate the complexity or daunting struggle with the question “Where do we draw the line?”
You're welcome Camille. Thanks for an uplifting response.
My pleasure, Kimmie. I was very moved by your writings and quite honored you shared them. When I heard this song for the first time recently, it reminded me a bit of both our writing styles and way of thinking.
I have to say I love this song! The melody is haunting and the lyrics are perfect for the rhythm and melody. All in all, I found it an excellent offering from a very inspiring band.
The story of Poets of the Fall began in 2002 in Helsinki, Finland. Singer Mark and guitarist Ollie, coming from differing musical backgrounds, had been jamming together in a group all year long. Once they realized how well their styles meshed, they started co-writing songs. Later on producer/musician Captain joined in.
The name, Poets of the Fall, comes from the idea that two opposites form a whole, ie. there isn't one without the other. "Poets" here represent the positive side and "the Fall" the negative. Of course, when you join these two concepts, the "Poets" starts to sound just a tad mischievious as well... depends, of course, on how you perceive "the Fall". You might see it as a beautiful crisp season and the "Poets" are its insightful architects. :)
Another deeply moving and thought provoking post Moonbeam and variety too!
I loved it....just fell over this line though:
'Before our love becomes insatiate'
