The Aftermath........

Perhaps the rashest words I’ve uttered in 2010 so far have been: ‘of course I can eat a whole turkey leg mother.’ The assault began well enough, assisted by a fleeting affair with a bottle or two of something from the Central Médoc followed by an interlude where I felt I was being unnecessarily loud. I managed to make it to the settee afterwards and can remember splendid vignettes from Birmingham Royal Ballet’s radical adaptation of Cinderella on the TV as I drifted in and out of sleep. There were further interludes for chocolates and playing rhythm guitar in the now traditional family rock concert, but I can’t say I was truly compos mentis again until the late evening.

Despite a five mile run with the dogs this morning I’ve still not managed to shake off the bloated feeling. Once the origins of Boxing Day (the 26th of Dec) were tied up with traditions of helping the poor. Now however they are an excuse for lethargy or further excess, when either the male members of the household crash in front of the TV to watch football, or the women head for the ‘Sales’ in search of ‘bargains.’ I’m now hoping to get out in the forlorn hope for a ‘dress or less’ or maybe even a ‘frock that will shock’ before I get back to receive the next invasion of guests. I’ll just have to make sure I don’t come back with a set of left-handed saucepans like I did last Boxing Day. Meanwhile I hope you have all had a truly wonderful Christmas.

Your Christmas sounds wonderful Saff. I spent my Christmas hearing trauma call after trauma call over the hospital pager system. Yet, in spite of all those calls, none of them were ever surgical. So needless to say, It was a wonderful Christmas.
