David Hamilton

Yesterday some of you clearly enjoyed the style of the daily images - shots of young girls set in hazy, contre jour lighting. They are clearly either David Hamilton images or in his style. A few more a presented here. David Hamilton (born 15 April 1933) is a British photographer and occasional film director best known for his images of young women. As much of Hamilton's work involves teenage girls, often nude, he has been the subject of considerable debate. As The Guardian newspaper has written "Hamilton's photographs have long been at the forefront of the "is it art or pornography?" debate. We have never shunned controversy here so you can decide.

Well, now. I m not knowledgeable about the graphic arts so my opinion is definitely personal and unlearned. For me the difference between erotic art and pornography is based on the 'less is more' principal. That is to say a graphic picture of the intimate parts is porn, but the hint of same is erotic. Perhps what I am trying to say is, if it stimulates the imagintion to ke you to the intended destination then its art. Well, don't look at me like that. I told you it was unlearned.

Both he and others capture and depict the appeal of serenity through the value or understated power of innocence. That peace, and stillness of being, portrays a certain naivety, such as young girls and children possess prior to being exposed to abrasive realities overriding once quiet contemplations. A superb post, Saffron. Thank you for sharing this! :)
