Lesson number 2 :
Knowing the field and the positions of the players.
The Cricket ground is oval , with an inner circle and and other circle. The outer circle is known as Boundary line. Right at the center of the ground , there is a patch which looks like a landing strip , which is known as "pitch", refer the picture above to check out the landing strip :p
Now on the pitch there are two ends , batsmen/ women stand on the either end. There is an umpire standing behind the wickets on the bowlers end and at the opposite end wicket keeper stands behind the wicket. what are wickets ? If you have noticed in the 1st part , right besides the batswomens legs there are 3 sticks with 2 'bells'.Still cant make your eyes move away from the fine lady ? then click HERE . (Saffy ,I can link it !) The batsmen/women who will be facing the bowler is called the striker and the other batsmen is called non-sticker, hence the end of the pitch with wicket keeper is called strikers end and the other end is called non-strikers end.
Now both the batsmen/women at all times stand behind the white line called "crease" at their respective end. That is their safe zone. Apart from these , there are fielders who are on the ground.
Click to enlarge and you can see the different positions and how the game looks like.
With this basic idea , tomorrow we will deal with the actual game play !
